Outfit: Prabal Gurung for Target color block + tuxedo blazer

Another outfit from back when it was a little cooler. I love this color blocked sweater from the Prabal Gurung for Target collection! So soft and comfy. I think this outfit would look better with skinny jeans and some heels but for work this look works (ha!).

Outfit: hunter green + cinnamon + slouchy sweater + gold

I'm catching up on recent outfits that I haven't had time to post. This one was from a few weeks ago when it was a little cooler here in California. The colors are pretty 'fall' but I still thought it was pretty cute (and definitely comfy). The slouchy sweater trend is one you have to be so careful with. It can go from stylish to 'are you pregnant?' real quick. As a result I only have a few slouchy sweaters. I like this one though. My rule is if the top is loose, the bottoms need to be fitted and vice-versa.

PS- It's Friday! Woo-hoo! I'm off work at noon and will be spending the afternoon laying out. And I'm pretty darn excited because I just saw one of my outfits pinned on Pinterest.

The Printed Pant Trend...on any budget!

I am loving all the bright patterns that are out this spring! So fun. For work you can pair printed pants with a tucked in button-up or blouse and on the weekends you can wear with a tank for a more casual look. I am big on versatility because when you're on a budget your clothes have to multitask. Here are my favorite printed pants from around the web at all price levels. Staying on trend doesn't mean you have to break the bank.

I've got my eye on the Banana Republic and J Crew pairs...waiting for them to go on sale (fingers crossed!) I do have the Target pair although I haven't worn them yet. I'm thinking of styling them with a tucked chambray, navy blazer, and mint flats.

Outfit: stripes over chambray with denim

This look is so classic American girl to me. I love it! The style is very Hilfiger/Nautica but I actually got most from Target. It's all about how you put the outfit together.

I wore this outfit for casual Friday at work. I ended up loving the stripes over chambray. When you're always cold like I am layers are your best friend. I actually put a thin long sleeved white shirt under the chambray for extra warmth. Speaking of chambray... this little $20 Target find from last summer has gotten so much use. I've considered upgrading to a better quality but I actually like the lived in thrifty look that this one has.

Outfit: cobalt + mustard + leopard

Yellow and mustard go together like peanut butter and jelly. Here's my take on the color combo: Cobalt blue pants and a light mustard cardigan paired with gold jewelry and leopard flats. It's starting to finally feel like spring, thank goodness! PS- excuse the bad hair, skin, and makeup. That's what you get for being stressed out and sleeping right through your alarm clock.

Flats - Target

Shop smarter tip: The Ebay app is your friend. I paid $90 for my first pair of Paige Denim pants at Nordstrom's Rack. They fit perfectly. This is quite huge because I have a terrible time finding pants that are long enough for my height, wide enough for my hips, and small enough for my chicken legs. So I immediately hopped onto Ebay and now I just periodically search for Paige Denim in my size. I have collected at least three new pairs at an average cost of about $60 (all brand new). Budgetistas rarely pay retail!

Outfit: kelly green + polka dots

I was pretty excited to get these kelly green Paige's in the mail. Thank you Ebay! The Peg Skinny by Paige is the best pair of pants if you're tall and have wide hips but thin legs and no butt. They're 98% cotton and 2% spandex so they have just the right amount of stretch. Love them with the polka dot! Shirt also seen here.

RIP Google Reader, Hello Bloglovin!

I heard the sad news yesterday about Google Reader shutting down effective July 1, 2013. So disappointing! I think this is a bad move on Google's part. Happily I switched everything over to Bloglovin' today. It will take some getting used to but so far I'm liking it. I do wish you could see the whole post in your reader, not just a little snippet that you have to click through to read.

Anyhow, in the process I figured I might as well claim this little blog as my own. I'd absolutely love it if you were to follow me. <3

Life (Oh, and the world's cutest blazer)

Life....sometimes it's just so daily. Dunno where that quote came from but I love it. Pretty much describes my world as of late. Leaving the house at 7:45, coming home toward 9 most nights and then working some more. I had such high hopes of 'doing it all' and maintaining a blog with at least four posts a week. I fail.

But that's okay because sometimes in life we have to prioritize. Survival mode if you will. The bed is unmade, laundry piling up in the closet, the ingredients for your carefully planned new curry recipe sit in the fridge going bad, and the few outfit pictures you managed to take are parked and neglected on your SD card. And then I flipped out today because I hit an enormous pot hole (thanks CalTrans!) and was sure my (relatively new) car's alignment was screwed (I did not use such a nice expression when venting to the BF). Deep breaths. It will be okay. I constantly fall short of my own expectations and life constantly throws curve-balls. But you know what? The necessities are all good. When I dropped to bed at midnight last night and cuddled up with the pups all three of us had full stomachs. Confession: It may have been Taco Bell (for me, not the dogs) instead of the steamed veggies I had hoped for. I even squeezed in a short bath which I justified by reading a textbook while I soaked. Despite all the crazy, life is good.

Now for something that definitely cheered me up today.

I have been wanting this yellow piped blazer from Banana Republic since I saw it here on The Chloe Conspiracy. (Love her style BTW.) I saw a navy version at a BR outlet but it was still close to $100 so I didn't buy it. Full price was $150 and there was no way I'd spend that much on one blazer. While picking up a few basics on Gap.com (PS- 25% off sale items with code GAPSALE through 3/10!) I checked the BR sale items and there was that blazer, with my name on it for $75. Still a lot of money for one item, in my world anyhow. But I love it so much!

Hello yellow, can't wait to get you in my closet! On sale here for $75.
